Benjamin was born on December 3rd, 1772.  Benjamin's father was Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and his mother was Madeleine Melançon.  His paternal grandparents were Pierre Lemire and Marie Josèphe Forest; his maternal grandparents were Jacques Melançon and Marguerite Brossard. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Jean, Pierre, Alexandra, Joseph, Belhonnt, Scholastique, Marie, Félicité, Rosalie, Marguerite and Madgeleine.
