William was born in 1727 in Virginia, USA.  William's father was William (Billy) Henry Mills and his mother was Mary Lavender Walton.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Mills and Margaret Ashmore. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Ambrose, Jesse, Sarah, Elizabeth, Miley, Anna and Milly.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 80 in 1807 in England.
