Anna was born in 1731 in Virginia, USA.  Anna's father was William (Billy) Henry Mills and her mother was Mary Lavender Walton.  Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert Mills and Margaret Ashmore. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Ambrose, William, Jesse, Sarah, Elizabeth, Miley and Milly.  She was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
