Madeleine was born in 1636 in Port Royal, Richmond, Nova Scotia.  Madeleine's father was Guillaume Blanchard and her mother was Huguette Poirier.  Her maternal grandparents were Unknown Poirier and Unknown Poirier. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Jean, Guillaume, Rene, Antoine, Charles, Martin, Marie, Anne and Jeanne.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
