George was born on May 20th, 1821 in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts.1   George's father was Epes Young and his mother was Nancy Gott. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Epes, Albert, Deborah, Nancy, Nancy, Mercy, Eliza, Lucy and Sarah.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Sarah.  He died at the age of 45 in 1866 in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts.
