Marie was born on September 18th, 1847 in Bischwiller, Bas-Rhin, France.1  Marie's father was Jacques Scherding and her mother was Elisabeth Hickel.  Her paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. She had a brother and four sisters, named Jacques, Julie, Madelaine, Frederique and Louise.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
