Christian was born on August 25th, 1765 in Kirkliston, West Lothian, Scotland.  Christian's father was Thomas Young and her mother was Katherine Baillie.  Her maternal grandparents were John Baillie and Catharine Johnston. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, James, William, Thomas, Margaret, Kathrine, Mary and Jean.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
