Betsy was born on August 25th, 1867 in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.1 Betsy's father was David Langlands and her mother was Jean Gibson. Her maternal grandparents were James Gibson and Margaret Bruce Hardie. She had two brothers and four sisters, named James, David, Ann, Agnes, Jane and Emma. She was the third youngest of the seven children.-
