His paternal grandparents were John Lipps and Elizabeth Tompkins; his maternal grandparents were DANIEL Gullett and MARY B. He had four brothers and a sister, named John Jesse, Micajah, Nelson, Jonathan Mulkey and Nancy. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 39 in 1850 in , Greenbrier, West Virginia, USA.-
