James E. Payne

James was born in 1825 in Franklin Co., Virginia.¹ James' father was Moses Payne and his mother was Judith Beard. His paternal grandparents were John Payne Sr. and Sarah Ellis; his maternal grandparents were Edward Beard and Sarah Walker. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Oaty, Robert, Lemuel, Green, Payne, Joseph, William, Matilda, Mary and Sarah. He was the nineth oldest of the eleven children.
