Robert C. was born in March 1883 in Rockingham Co, NC. Robert C.'s father was George Washington Sawyers and his mother was Bertha Parsada Roberts. His maternal grandparents were Nebuchanezer Roberts and Mary A. Floyd. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James W., Hartly S., Roy A., Samuel M., Fannie E., Annie B. and Mattie L..
