Martha Jane was born in 1847 in Rockingham Co, NC.1 Martha Jane's father was Richard M. Roberts and her mother was Mary Allen. Her paternal grandparents were James Roberts and Susannah Thomas. She had four brothers named Nathaniel, Robert, Eldridge and Richard M.. She was the oldest of the five children.1 General Notes
