William PAYTON 
William was born on June 7th, 1822 in Mason Co., Kentucky.1 William's father was Anthony PAYTON and his mother was Margaret WALLINGFORD. His maternal grandparents were Mark WALLINGFORD and Mary WHALEY. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named James Franklin, Mark Wallingford, Thomas, George Washington, Laureny Douglas, John L., Harvey H., Julina, Mary Wallingford, Louisa D. and Sarah E.. He was the second oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 66 on September 7th, 1888 in Carpentersville, Putnam Co., Indiana. He was buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Parke Co., Indiana.2 1 General Notes

BIRTH: Based on order of children in father's will, he may have been born in 1824.
BIOGRAPHY: 1870 census: Farmer in Jackson Township with $5,200 real estate and $1,000 personal property.
DEATH: Crooks Family Genealogy and one cemetery record have death on December 5.
