John L. PAYTON 
John L. was born on September 2nd, 1842 in Parke Co., Indiana.1 John L.'s father was Anthony PAYTON and his mother was Margaret WALLINGFORD. His maternal grandparents were Mark WALLINGFORD and Mary WHALEY. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named William, James Franklin, Mark Wallingford, Thomas, George Washington, Laureny Douglas, Harvey H., Julina, Mary Wallingford, Louisa D. and Sarah E.. He was the third youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 77 on February 2nd, 1920 in Sullivan Co., Indiana.2 General Notes
