Samuel Franklin was born in October 1879 in , Wayne County, Iowa, USA.1 Samuel Franklin's father was George Washington Garton and his mother was Mary Susan Shipley. His maternal grandparents were Richard Shipley and Julinda Windom. He had five brothers and a sister, named William Preston, Allen Dale, Gilbert Hollister, Edward, Telford Hal and [--?--]. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 68 in 1947. He was buried in Humeston Cemetery, , Wayne County, Iowa, USA.2 General Notes
