Harriet Jane was born on September 12th, 1850 in Buncombe Co., N.C.. Harriet Jane's father was John Holmes GENTRY and her mother was Sarah R. BALL. Her maternal grandparents were Sampson Harrison BALL and Rosanna NORMAN. She had four brothers and six sisters, named William Sampson C., Thomas Jefferson, George Washington T., Elijah Young, Rosanne E., Lucinda, Elizabeth S., Laura Emmaline, Sophronia Josephine and Sarah Catherine. She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.-
