Vera Irene was born on February 1st, 1903 in Davie, North Carolina.1 Vera Irene's father was Charles "Charlie" Monroe Foster and her mother was Lena Mae Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Shadrach Shadric M. Foster and Nancy E Beauchamp. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Willie Ray, Charlie Jasper "Hoss", Nan "Nannie" Evelyn, Stella and Margaret L. She was the oldest of the six children.-
