His paternal grandparents were Isaac Hillery Foster and Harriet Bevill. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Garrett Van, Franklin, Mary Harriet, Ossie Myrtle, Mussetta Grace and Osa Myrtle. He was the oldest of the seven children.-
