John was born about 1781 in Monongalia Co., West Virginia.  John's father was John Wade and his mother was Nancy Patts.  His paternal grandparents were George Wade I and Ann Arah (Unknown). He had seven brothers and six sisters, named George, Isaac, William, Joseph, Richard, Wenman, Samuel, Elizabeth, Leah, Selah, Rachel, Nancy and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the fourteen children.
