Marriage records indicate in two places that Sherman Clark was born in Westhampton although no birth record has been found as of 6/9/93.

Edith Nyman (Wm. Clarke and Des.) gives Northampton as Sherman's birthplace (3-27-1797), Westhampton as his place of marriage to Samantha Bates (2-29-1820), and Easthampton as his place of death (3-29-1874). He appears in Westhampton in the 1830 US Census, in Northampton in the 1840 census, then again in Westhampton in the 1850 census. We have not found him in the 1860 or 1870 census.

Ms. Nyman: Westhampton Town Proceedings list Sherman Clark as a Field Driver in 1821, on the Prudential School Committee in 1839 and in 1840 on a Committee to Regulate Funerals. He is listed on the Westampton Militia. On 24 April 1844, John & Nancy Bates quitclaim to Sherman Clark, 250 acres of land with buildings in Westhampton bounded on the west by the town line between Norwich and Westhampton. On 8 Dec 1856, Sherman, Othniel and Cyrenius Clark paid $3800 for a 64 acre tract with buildings located partly in Southampton and partly in Easthampton. On 24 Dec 1871, Sherman Clark was dismissed from the Westampton Congregational Church to First Church, Easthampton.

Sherman Clark died in Easthampton in 1874 at age 77. Hampshire County Probate #185:19. (Nyman).
