[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #1377, Date of Import: Oct 25, 1998]
When Silas Clark married Elizabeth Strong in 1756, he succeeded his father on his homestead on Elm St. This house was the one in which he was born and where he and Elizabeth continued to live and raise their children. His father's will gave Silas "all my land in Northampton including house, barn and all other buildings".
Silas is listed in the service after the fall of Louisburg. In 1747, he was one of Lt. Wm. Lyman's Co. at Fort Massachusetts. He was appointed as a Hogreeve in 1756; then, as a fence viewer in 1758. In 1759, he was a field driver; in 1764, a Tythingman; a Hayward in 1767 and a Hogreeve again in 1769. He served again as a Tythingman in 1773 and in 1774 was on a land exchange committee with Mr. Josiah Clark, Jr. and Lt. Gideon Clark. In March 1778, he was chosen as a Constable but refused to serve and "paid his fine". He last appeared as a Sabbath Warden in 1783.
There is a plot for the Silas Clark family in Bridge St. Cemetery and there is an S. A. R. marker on his grave. His will dated 26Feb1810 was very long and gave explicit directions for the care of his wife and unmarried daughters.
