William M. was born in 1858.1   William M.'s father was George W. Welch and his mother was Sarah Durant.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Welch and Elizabeth Leach. He had two brothers and a sister, named Edward, Joseph and Carrie.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Jesse C., Florence L., Estella, Hahey and Myrtle.1
