1   Frederick's father was Jacob Leendsten Vandergrift and his mother was Rebecca Lubbersten.  His maternal grandfather was Frederick Lubbersten. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Nicholas Jacobsz, Leonard (Leendert), Johannes, Martjie, Anna and Christina.1
