Jane was born in 1805 in Lavonia, Franklin, Georgia.1   Jane's father was Marchant Thomas and her mother was Jemima Hamilton. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named James, Jesse, Joseph, Hamilton, Reuben, Isaac, Elisha, Mary Elizabeth Betsey and Catherine.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.1
