Washington was born about 1878.1   Washington's father was Jesse C. Tatum and his mother was Louisa Surrency.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel D. Surrency and Elizabeth Kennedy. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, James H., Nancy Elizabeth, Fannie Leanora, America and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the seven children.1
