Richard was born in 1580.1   Richard's father was Michael Spencer and his mother was Elizabeth Unknown.  His paternal grandparents were John Spencer and Anne Merrill. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Michael, Thomas, Gerrard, Joan, Alice and Katherine. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, Michael and Anne.1
