John was born in 1557.1   John's father was Michael Spencer and his mother was Agnes Lymee.  His paternal grandparents were John Spencer and Anne Merrill. He had a brother and a sister, named Michael and Anne. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Michael, Thomas, Richard, Gerrard, Joan, Alice and Katherine.1
