John was born about 1419 in Of, Merchiston, Mid Lothian, Scotland.1   John's father was Alexander Napier and his mother was Elizabeth Lauder.  His paternal grandfather was Alexander Napier. He had two brothers and a sister, named Henry, Alexander and Janet.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died before November 3rd, 1487.1
