Benjamin Hopkins 
Benjamin was born on January 4th, 1802 in Danfusky Island, SC.1 Benjamin's father was Francis Hopkins and his mother was Rebecca Sayre. His paternal grandparents were Francis Hopkins and Mary Martinangel; his maternal grandparents were Jeremiah Sayre and Elizabeth Fripp Green. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named John Livingston, Francis, William Proctor, Edward Stevens, Charles Harris, Thomas Spalding, Octavius Caesar, Mary Martinangel, Georgia and Elizabeth. He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 60 in 1862 in St. Augustine, FL. He was buried in 1862 in old cem. Jacksonville, FL.1 1 General Notes

was in double wedding with her sister Sarah by Rev. William Mathews, Episcopal minister. They went to his mother's at "Baisden's Bluff", near Darien, McIntosh Co.
Following his marriage, wwent with wife back to McIntosh Co to live with his widowed mother at Baisen's Bluff, but after her death, retu;rned to Camden Co. to live. Active in militia; Capt of the 31st district militia, Cambden Cjo 1826-1833; Major of 8th Battalion 1833-1836. Representative from Camden in legislature 1846; Rem to Jacksonville, FL. His wife died there 1873. They were buried in the old cemetery in Jacksonville, FL.
In FL, Benj. served in FL militia in Seminole War, attaining rank of Brig.Gen. 1855. During Civil war, organized a company of rangers for service in the state troops, and served as Captain of the same until his death 1862.
