Joseph was born in Windsor, CT and his baptism took place in Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut.1 2 Joseph's father was Edward Griswold and his mother was Sarah Bemis. His paternal grandparents were George Griswold and Dousabel Leigh; his maternal grandfather was James Bemis. He had four brothers and five sisters, named George, Francis, Samuel, John, Lydia, Ann, Mary, Deborah and Sarah.1 -
