Edward was born about 1834.1   Edward's father was Joel Dukes and his mother was Sarah Kennedy.  His maternal grandparents were Edward Kennedy and Cynthia Unknown. He had two brothers and three sisters, named William H., Leander J., Henrietta R., Elizabeth A. and Mary A..  He was the oldest of the six children.1
