Jane Doty 
Jane was born in 1722 in Basking Ridge, New Jersey (?).1 Jane's father was Jonathan Doty and her mother was Mary. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Doty and Jane (Jeanne) Harmon. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Jonathan, Daniel, Joshua, Joseph, Elizabeth and Mary. She was the second oldest of the eight children.1 General Notes

Jane Doty states that she married John Johnson 21 October 1747, in Morristown NJ. However, the will of John Johnson of Mendham Twp., Morris Co., yeoman, dated 3 October 1776, proved 26 June 1777, mentions his wife Jane and "brothe-in-law Jacob Doty". Jane, the daughter of Jonathan Doty, did not have a brother Jacob, but Jane, the daughter of Nathaniel Doty did have a brother Jacob. It is therefore more likely that the wife of John Johnson was the daughter of Nathaniel Doty, not of Jonathan Doty.
The fact that Nathaniel and hi children were resident in Morris County, where Jane Doty amrried John Johnson, gives further weight to the probability that Jane (Doty) Johnson was Nathaniel Doty's daughter.
It is recognized that if John Johnson had a sister who married Jacob Doty, the men would also be brothers-in-law, but this appears to be a less likely alternative.
