George was born on March 4th, 1854.1   George's father was George Dilling and his mother was Elizabeth Longnecker.  His paternal grandparents were Conrad Dilling and Elizabeth Brumbaugh. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Jacob, John, Samuel, Daniel, Mary A., Catherine, Elizabeth and Sara Ann.  He was the second youngest of the nine children. He had seven half-brothers and three half-sisters, named David, Isaac, Adam, Andrew J., Emanuel, William, Harvey, Susanna, Barbara and Nancy.1
