David was born on November 29th, 1859.1   David's father was George Dilling and his mother was Margared Stayer.  His paternal grandparents were Conrad Dilling and Elizabeth Brumbaugh. He had eleven half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Jacob, John, Samuel, Daniel, George, Isaac, Adam, Andrew J., Emanuel, William, Harvey, Mary A., Catherine, Elizabeth, Sara Ann, Susanna, Barbara and Nancy.1
