Hester was born in Cortlandtown, Westchester Co. NY.1 Hester's father was James Croft and her mother was Hester Vought. Her paternal grandparents were John Croft and Mary Bowman; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Christian Vought and Christina Rhineheart. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Henry, Stephen, James H, Elizabeth, Kate and Margaret.1 -
