His paternal grandparents were Seth Boyet and Patience Moore; his maternal grandparents were Green Thrift and Polly Holland. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Asberry, Thomas J., William E., James S., Eli Lee, Algerine M., Polly Ann Elizabeth, Ida Mozelle and Sarah Pricilla.
