Richard was born on August 6th, 1831.1   Richard's father was James Bell and his mother was Rebecca West. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named John, James, George, David, Eligah, Abraham, William, Ann, Catherine, Lucy and Emma.  He was the oldest of the twelve children.1
