David was born on November 20th, 1841.1   David's father was James Bell and his mother was Rebecca West. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Richard, John, James, George, Eligah, Abraham, William, Ann, Catherine, Lucy and Emma.  He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.1
