Mary was born about 1840 in MO.1 Mary's father was Elias Lewis Baldwin and her mother was Elizabeth. Her paternal grandfather was Unkown Baldwin. She had a brother and a sister, named Edward and Lucy. She was the oldest of the three children. She had three half-sisters named Amanda, Mahala and Anna.1
