Blanche was born on September 25th, 1898 in Northwood, North Dakota.1   Blanche's father was Knute K. Bakken and her mother was Beata Pladson.  Her maternal grandparents were Osten Halvorsen Pladson and Hage Midboe. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Orvis Chester, Roy Kenneth, Hattie C., Gladys Lucille and Lillian Sophia.  She died at the age of 6 in 1904.1
