Sarah was born on July 13th, 1853.1   Sarah's father was William Allen Baird and her mother was Margaret Annetta McNeel. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Samuel McNeel, James, William Allen, Jane and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the six children.1
