Mary was born in 1761 in Wellington, Somerset, England. Mary's father was Michael Stradling and her mother was Sarah Gill. Her paternal grandparents were Michael Stradling and Hannah Stradling. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Michael, William, Obadiah, Sarah, Ann and Elizabeth. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.-
