Rebecca was born in 1847.1 Rebecca's father was Thomas Hugh Jonas Smyth and her mother was Nancy M Orr. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Smyth and Hannah Crabtree; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Orr and Margaret Peggy Ramsey. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Alexander F, James, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Elizah Jane and Virginia. She was the youngest of the eight children. She had two half-brothers named William and George.-
