Martha was born in 1871 in Griffin, Nash, N C.1 Martha's father was Neverson W Cooper and her mother was Nancy K. Her paternal grandparents were George Cooper and Temperance Drake Cooper. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Burwel, Neverson, Charles, Frederick, John, Nancy and Sarah A. She was the second youngest of the eight children.-
