His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Dennison and Drucilla; his maternal grandparents were Josiah Barnes and Elizabeth Trammel. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Daniel, Tramel, Henry D, JAMES A, Catherine, Susan Anderson, Martha Patsy, Nancy Ann and Elizabeth A Betsy.
