Edward was born about 1414 in Raby with Keverstone, Staindrop, Durham, England. Edward's father was Ralph De Neville and his mother was Joan De Beaufort. His paternal grandparents were John De Neville and Maud De Percy; his maternal grandparents were John Plantagenet and Catherine Swynford De Roet. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Richard, William, Catherine and Ann. He was the youngest of the five children.
