Francis was born in 1569 in Thurland Castle, Lancastershire, England. Francis' father was Francis Tunstall and his mother was Anne Bold. His paternal grandfather was Marmaduke Tunstall and his paternal grandmother is Mary Alice Scargill; his maternal grandfather was Richard Bold and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Gerard. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, Alice, Elizabeth, Thomasine and Joan. He is the oldest of the seven children. He has a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Richard, Mary, Margaret and Bridget.General Notes
