"The CLINTON PUBLIC of September 7, 1877 read: `Samuel Spencer, another old settler of DeWitt County, passed over the shores of time September 4, at his residence. Uncle Sam moved from Sangamon County, this State, in the year 1839. He has lived on his farm for 47 years. When he first settled here he had a horse mill for grinding corn and wheat.
