Samuel S. Spencer 
Samuel S. was born in 1795 in Grayson Co., KY. Samuel S.'s father was Michael C. Spencer and his mother is Hannah Mattingly. He was an only child. He died at the age of 82 on September 4th, 1877 in Wapella/Clinton, De Witt Co., IL.General Notes
"The CLINTON PUBLIC of September 7, 1877 read: `Samuel Spencer, another old settler of DeWitt County, passed over the shores of time September 4, at his residence. Uncle Sam moved from Sangamon County, this State, in the year 1839. He has lived on his farm for 47 years. When he first settled here he had a horse mill for grinding corn and wheat. People would come to his mill for forty miles around to get their meal and flour. He was about 86 years--`". Source for this information generously provided by Mr. William R. They had six sons and five daughters, named William, John Jr., Joseph, James, Apollis Hess, Jane, Anna Hess, Darlinda, Letha, Zerilda and Elizabeth.
