William+ was born in 1760 in Shallow Ford, Surrey Co., NC. William+'s father was William Quiller+ Mickles and his mother was Clara+ England. His paternal grandparents are John Michael and Anne+ X; his maternal grandparents are William England and Mary+ Watson. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas+, Elizabeth and Mary. He was the oldest of the five children. He died after 1830 in Surrey Co., NC.General Notes

He married Ruth Johnson, daughter of William Johnson & Susannah W Johnson, 2 Aug 1789 in Campbell Co., Virginia. Born 12 Jun 1763 in New Kent Co, VA/ S.River Bedford, VA. Died 17 Jun 1835 in Surry Co., NC Deep Creek MM Rec (Mical). The record of their marriage is listed in Deep Creek MM Quaker records and in North Carolina Marriages."

"Here is a map of Surry Co., NC (in file) shows where Wiliiam and Clara Mickles were in 1768 and before , at Shallow Ford . This is were John Mikels in 1768, was born as well as William & Thomas later. There is a record in The Morovian Church records in their early settling in Surry Co., mentions a Mr. Michcoll stopped by in 1752 or 1753. (C)ould this be the John Sr & Ann whom I'm looking for. I'm thinking these early Mickles were trappers and hunters and they probably knew the Boone's and Bryan's and may even gone on hunting parties with them."
