John's father was James Johnston and his mother is Margaret Hamilton. His paternal grandfather was John Johnston and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Jardine; his maternal grandparents are John Hamilton and Janet Home. He had two half-sisters named Margaret and Elizabeth. He died on June 5th, 1587.General Notes
